What?

Day 1:
Check in at a family hotel near the airport.
Banjarmasin is well known for its maze of canals and a big part of the city is built around it. You make a canal tour on a small traditional motorboat, to see the buzz of the city before night sets in.
 

Day 2:
At 5.30 am you leave the hotel for a boat tour to one of the most busy traditional markets on the water.  Colorful and exotic!
Early afternoon you go to Cempaka to witness diamond mining.  You see traditional one family hole next to huge piles of sand of the more fortunate.  Only one constant:  the urge in peoples eyes to find big money.  It definitely is a very impressive visit.

Day 3:
Again a very early start to Loksado area, north of  Banjarmasin.  On the road you pass hundreds of truck bringing charcoal off and on from the mines.  But after about 3 hours drive you make a turn and enter another world.  Your trekking guide (a very competent local Dayak) and a porter (for tents and food) will be waiting for you.  Be aware that your own small backpack you carry yourself. Where the road stops, the forest is a short motorbike ride away.  From there you start walking through both primary and secondary forest.  Don’t expect to see loads of animals. It is not a zoo, nor an African National Park.  With some luck you come across gibbons and hornbill birds.  With some bad luck you find leeches and wild boar.
After about 5 hours of walking you set up camp.

Day 4:
After another day of walking of about 6 to 7 hours, you reach a small Dayak village from where some motorbikes will take you to Loksado  village.  You stay the night in a small hotel.
 

Day 5:
At 9 am a car picks up your luggage while you go down the river a couple of hours on a bamboo raft.The car picks you up and takes you to another gem place.  A swamp area where the water takes a most important place in people’s lifes.  But the water seems to be just as important for the … swimming buffaloes.  A boat trip through stunning scenery to even more stunning stables on the water where cowboys use canoes instead of horses.
Late at night you will reach the hotel in Banjarmasin

Day 6:
Leave to your next destination.

This program can be extended with one more day of trekking.  So instead of 2 days you can choose to spend 3 days in the forest.  In this package you will spend one night in a tent and one night in a longhouse.
