RESPECT THE EARTH

CONTEMPORARY BATIK EXHIBITION

April 22^nd is Earth Day. Our Mother Earth is getting older. And it’s increasingly eroded by human greed used to be for its gold. Now, there are other gold, green gold (forestry product), black gold (oil and gas), and blue gold (clean water). The result is damaged earth. Damage caused by exploitation of the earth shall be borne by all living creatures, including humans.

The wealth of the earth should be used for common welfare. However, at the end, it’s only used by some people. On the other hand, the damage shall be felt by all beings. The damage of our old earth caused more flood, landslides, hurricane, long drought, fire forest, and other. Social problems like clean water and food crisis are then emerged. Global warming and climate change now are the hot issues. Motivation shifts from fulfilling needs into fulfilling wish and satisfaction. It’s for sure worsening the earth.

Earth is supposed to be human’s best friend and teacher. The balance of nature and human is urgent, since nature teaches wisdom to human being.

Concerned about sustainable damage of the earth, Batik Alam Raya commemorates Earth Day 2010 by organizing exhibition of contemporary batik.

Starting in LIP (Indonesia-France Institute), Batik Alam Raya then cooperates with ViaVia Jogja to show contemporary batik motifs inspired by the earth.  And batik can also inspire us to preserve the earth and keep the harmony of life.
