Overland West Java

Day 1: We catch the night train to Bandung and drive on to Garut-Cipanas, a small village famous for its hot mountain springs. Natural hot water flows through every bathroom in dozens of small hotels. We visit Candi Cangkuang temple, the only remnant of the Hindu period in West Java. Surrounded by water, we take a bamboo raft to visit this small beauty.

Day 2: Early morning we head for a very beautiful medium walk up the Papandayan volcano. You are welcomed by the hissing sound of hot water and a rotten sulfur smell originating from white smoke coming out of yellow holes. We drive to Bandung (4-5 hours)

Day 3: Early morning we take a car to visit Tangkuban Perahu or we go cheap outlet shopping for which Bandung is famous in Asia. In the afternoon we visit a school for traditional bamboo music (angklung).
We spend one last night in Bandung.

Day 4: We take a train to Jakarta (3 hours) and visit the old part of town with architectural remnants of the colonial past and the impressive schooner harbor. Drop off at the hotel.
